The best thing to do is move spam messages to a folder on the server. This way you can review the junk mail on the server via the Webmail and decide if it is good or bad. Your email program only downloads stuff in you main folder. Everything else sits on the server until you delete it. Please do delete it. If these folders start getting to big I have to go in and thin them out. After you are sure you are only filtering out junk mail you can return here and change the action to delete the messages.
First we have to create a folder in which to dump the junk mail.
From your Webmail interface click on the drop down arrow next to "Options and Styles..."
Select the option "Folders"
In the field "folder name" put the name of the new folder, I call mine "junk" you can make it a subfolder if you want but for now leave the "Subfolder of..." menu alone. Click "create".
Now that we have a folder to use for SPAM go back to the "Options and Styles..." menu and select "Filters".
The "Edit Rule" pop-up page comes up. In the drop down menu under "Select Field" select "Subject" and click the radio button next to the word "contains". In the area under the word "Phrase" put the phrase "X-SPAM" without quotes. (You can create rules with any phrase you want to kill)
Click the "Add Condition" button. You'll see the Rule appear in the "Rules" field. It should say "Subject Contains X-SPAM" click on the text to highlight it and then in the "Filter Action" field leave "Move the message to this mailbox:" and type "Junk" in the "destination" field. Click finish and all the tagged email will go to the junk folder. You can access the junk folder in Webmail. It will be listed on the left under your inbox.
When you are confident that this is only catching SPAM you can change the Filter Action to "delete the message" and they'll just go away. The "Bounce" option returns the message to the sender. This may seem like a good idea, who wouldn't want to flood the email boxes of spammers with useless and tasteless garbage. Unfortunately the spammers know about this and use fake "reply to" headers. Deleting or moving is the most effective way to process these messages.
